WHY “WATCH ME”? Even though several songs by the Ghanaian based gospel artist cool the fleeting breath and sound relatable, “Watch Me” released in the latter part of 2024 hits differently, the motive behind this masterpiece is to encourage every weary soul (individual) trying to be successful not to give up but rather put their faith to work, she elaborates through her song to only hope in God for He never forsakes even when the world leaves you behind. Also, this centers that God is the only dependable everyone should look up to regarding her intro line “S3 )haw ba me so a, na anidasuo nyinaa asa a, me nim s3 wo honhom no y3 me ho adwuma nti me nsuro, when all hope is lost na s3 no)ma nk) yie a, me wura me nim s3 wo tumi no y3 me ho adwuma enti me nsuro (When trouble comes upon me and all hopes are gone, I know that your spirit is working for me so I’m not afraid. When all hope is lost and things don’t go well, my lord, I know your power is working for me, so I am not afraid)“. She further creates clarity in her song, making one understand that God never created you to suffer or lack anything, once there’s no way out, God has a plan and will sort you out and see you through.
The entire visuals of the music content have all these messages featured, where she also rallied the importance of prayer, especially in devastating times of want. Fascinatingly when she decided to release this song she talked about it to her mom the late Evangelist “Agnes Aba Annan” who also had her way out into the movie industry who convinced her that, this track was going to take her to another new dimension of fame in her career, where she was also featured into the video content of the song, so more likely understood, this song was a prophecy for Empress Gifty.
Looking from the perspective of how the message and the whole content idea was formulated, it was also fueled with a combination of “Asante twi“ a local dialect from Ghana in the Ashanti region, and The English language acting as an interpreter for whatever message the local dialect is conveying, it began with the fusion of a music interlude of the saxophone, drums and other musical instruments in an alignment with good key knots and tone.
Empress Gifty’s “Watch Me“ is a song dedication to all making it to the top who feel like giving up, there’s an assurance that God is faithful and always there for everyone could and must depend on. Again with caution, she tells the world to look out for her rising up and never failing or falling to be laughed at, to conclude even when the world leaves you behind God warmly receives you for a better reset Amen.
